We are offering schools a workshop that will be conducted by two local authors! Jessica Alejandro as the author of the Extraordinary Losers Series and myself, author of the Triple Nine Sleuths series, will be collaborating to offer engaging workshops in schools in 2016. It is our aim and hope that children would get to meet and be inspired by local authors. Hence, we are pleased to inform you of the following:
1) I am offering a special 2 hour workshop for about 30-40 students on The Secrets to Writing Mystery. Below is a short synopsis.
How to write a suspenseful mystery? What are some writing tips that can ensure a thrilling experience for a reader?
Maranna Chan, author of teen mystery series Triple 9 Sleuths, will share her methods of writing mystery stories that will inspire your students to develop their imagination in writing captivating stories. Using examples from her books, she will help students have a better understanding about the genre, learn how to create interesting characters and learn the art of using red herrings to plot their stories to make them intriguing. Students will get to share their stories with the rest of the class and receive a certificate of achievement. This 2-hour workshop aims to inspire young writers to improve in their writing skills.
2) Jessica is also offering an interactive 2 hour workshop for 30-40 students on Oracy skills. Below is a short synopsis.
What are some basic mechanics of speech? How does one employ these techniques to reading and speaking?
The author of the Extraordinary Losers series, Jessica Alejandro who has been delivering school talks will be conducting an exciting and interactive Oracy workshop. Children will learn tips on breath, tone, pitch, volume and pronunciation. She will also share her quick secrets on poetry writing from her book and allow the students to create their own short poems! Then, through a tongue twister and Poetry Slam competition, students will get to pit their skills against one another and receive achievement certificates. This 2 hour fun-filled workshop aims to help students give meaning and life to words by their competent reading and will also increase their confidence in speaking.
